Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A case has been registered at Jadavpur Police Station (Case No. 22/25, dated 07.02.25) based on a complaint filed by Tathagata Ghosh, son of Bidyut Baran Ghosh, residing at D/95-A, Baghajatin, PO- Jadavpur University, PS- Jadavpur, Kolkata-32. The complaint alleges that two accused persons, Pratik Pal alias Sayan and Tapan Pal alias Aniket Basu, conspired and impersonated others to commit repeated rape upon two women and later threatened them with severe consequences. The alleged incidents occurred on or before February 7.
Following the complaint, police arrested one of the accused, Pratik Paul (37), son of Pradip Paul, on February 7 at approximately 11:40 PM. The arrest was made from Nonacharan Pukur Bazar, beside Maa Saradamoyi Mistri Dukan, under Titagarh Police Station, Kolkata-700122, Barrackpore. He is also associated with an address at 2 No. Bijoynagar, PO & PS - Naihati, Pin-743165, North 24 Parganas. The arrest was conducted as per legal procedures, and he was produced before the court on February 8 for police remand.
The second accused, Tapan Pal alias Aniket Basu, is currently absconding, and search operations are underway to trace his whereabouts. Police are conducting further investigations to gather additional evidence and verify all details related to the case. Efforts to locate and apprehend the absconding accused are ongoing. Authorities have urged individuals with any relevant information to assist in the investigation.
